Outdoor Refrigeration
Don’t Wait for Winter
As we prepare for the upcoming season, one question always comes up: will winter deliver, or will it fall short again? To ensure a long skate season filled with perfect ice, we can’t rely on Mother Nature alone.
By investing in portable refrigeration, you can maintain optimal ice conditions in ambient temperatures up to 12°C / 53.6°F — opening your outdoor skate season as early as Halloween and keeping it alive until late April.
What Is a Refrigeration System?
Refrigerated rinks use a chiller, pump, and specialized refrigeration mats that circulate glycol through the rink floor — maintaining excellent skating conditions even when temperatures reach 10°C.
While this technology is traditionally found in commercial skating arenas, we have adapted it for residential use, offering both permanent and portable options.
Permanent & Portable Options
Permanent systems can be embedded in concrete, sand, or integrated into building flooring for year-round use.
Our portable systems — often called “roll on, roll off” — feature piping laid directly on the rink surface, rolled up and stored after each season. Perfect for backyards, special events, holiday rentals, movie shoots, or any temporary ice surface.
What You Need to Get Started
Three key requirements must be met to install a portable refrigeration system on your property.
Flat Surface
Grass, concrete pad, tennis court, or pool deck — any flat, level surface works for laying the modular piping mats evenly.
Electrical Supply
A dedicated electrical panel connection (240V, single or three-phase depending on chiller size) to run the compressor.
Water Access
A standard outdoor water source for the initial fill, building the ice base, and resurfacing throughout the season.
Full-Season Support, Not Just a Machine
Every Center Ice refrigeration package comes with professional delivery and commissioning, glycol supply and pressure monitoring, on-call storm recovery, and full teardown and off-season storage at the end of the season.
We don’t drop off equipment and leave — our crews stay involved from first freeze to final melt.
Halloween to Late April
A properly sized glycol chiller can keep your rink frozen from late October right through to April — that’s up to six months of skating that natural cold alone could never guarantee.
Our engineering team sizes each chiller to your rink surface, climate zone, and expected ambient temperatures so you get every possible skating day out of the system.
Backyard, Event, or Anywhere In Between
Our portable systems serve residential backyards, municipal holiday activations, corporate events, movie productions, and seasonal venue rentals. If you need real ice on a deadline, we can deliver it.
